Journalist 

Palestine Telegraph, an online Palestinian newspaper based in Gaza and London, is seeking a reporter/journalist based in the Gaza Strip to identify, research and write about news occurring in Palestine, particularly Gaza. 

Typical work activities

o   Building contacts to identify and explain breaking and evolving news (police and emergency services, local councils, community groups, health trusts, press officers from a variety of organizations, etc.).

o   Seeking out and investigating stories via personal contacts, press releases and other sources.

o   Interviewing people in a range of different circumstances, recording them using shorthand or taping equipment.

o   attending press conferences and asking questions;

o   Writing short 'filler' articles, news stories, and longer features and investigative pieces, as well as reports for PT donors and supporters.

o   Working closely with the PT team, including photographers and editors, to plan the day's stories and obtain the necessary supporting information and materials.

Requirements

o   Excellent command of Arabic and ability to comfortably speak and write English.

o   Degree in journalism or the equivalent of at least one year of related experience/performance. Candidates will be asked to complete a time-limited writing exercise (Arabic or English) to demonstrate their ability to write quickly in a journalistic style.

o   Strong command of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Word.

o   Ability to work swiftly and under pressure on multiple tasks simultaneously.

o   Willing and able to work overtime and at odd hours if necessary.

o   Team player; takes constructive feedback well and continually strives to improve his or her work output.

Three references vouching for the candidate's writing skills and work ethic must be submitted, along with three work samples.
